Spencer was born and raised in Miami, Florida where he graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. His majors were in painting, photography, and ceramics. The artist is equally accomplished working with watercolors, acrylics, and sculpting medias.
Most of Spencer’s paintings have one or two reoccurring elements, rust, and weathered wood. He explores how the forces of nature, such as water, wind, and, more importantly, time alters things. His paintings of old barns, houses, trucks, and cars tell stories of how natural processes gives manmade, inanimate objects a life — and death — all of their own.
The artist has done public and private commissions including pieces for Walt Disney World, and The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas. Spencer likes to show his work in the annual Bozeman Sweet Pea Festival Of The Arts where he has won numerous awards including a Best Of Show in 2016 for his painting “Moving Right On In”.
Spencer rejoices in his Montana backyard, filled with an abundance of old buildings and other treasures yet to be discovered –subjects for future paintings that should keep him busy. Spencer Simons is currently represented by The Dancing Buffalo Gallery in Virginia City, Montana.
Spencer’s piece, “Mr. Guffey’s Legacy” has been entered in the Sweet Pea juried show. The show opens to the public on Friday, July 10 and is located in the ERA Landmark office, 8 East Main St., Bozeman. He has high hopes that his painting will be awarded a ribbon, and as his work was placed among the art of many other talented local artists, he will be honored to be recognized. This piece will be back in the bank once the Sweet Pea juried show is over.
Bank of Bozeman will be hosting an Artist’s Reception for Mr. Simons on September 17th, 2020 from 5:30-7:00 PM. All are welcome to enjoy light refreshments and learn more about the artist and the inspiration behind his beautiful pieces.
