Online shopping is a convenient and quick way to get your favorite products delivered straight to your door. What’s not convenient? Fraudulent charges, stolen personal information, or untimely recurring payments that you didn’t authorize.
This month, we’re going to share some things to remember that you can help you keep your money and personal information safe while shopping on the web.
- Just because a website boasts cheap prices, doesn’t mean they deserve your business. Many websites that offer dupes or unbelievably cheap products are not a legitimate company. They may send you a “product” but in return for your purchase, they have gained access to your personal and card information.
- Trust us, it’s not a worthwhile trade!
When deciding who to trust online, it is best to shop with reputable sites that you know have a trustworthy track record (think Amazon, Target, Walmart, etc.) if you have questions about the store, it’s best to trust your instincts and avoid making that purchase. - Regularly review your purchases on your bank statement. If you believe a company has fraudulently charged you for a purchase, you have the right to dispute the charge, but certain charges have time limits on when you can file a dispute. It’s best to catch the fraudulent charge earlier rather than later!
- Don’t panic – if you believe that your card information has been stolen or used without your authorization, call the number on the back of your card to cancel your existing card and have a new one issued to you.
